Trail Status

We will try to update mushers on the trail status and conditions in a timely manner so mushers will know where we are with the trail and subsequently, the races. As we get closer to the scheduled dates, updates will be posted more often.

A view of the Staging Area with good snow everywhere. We did our first test runs this on the trail this morning. We are good to go. The trail is in better shape than it was at this time last year according to reports from all mushers and skijorers to tested the trail this moring. The trail is wider with better coverage, hard and fast. Unlike last year, it is not punchy at all. Again, according to those who tested the trail this morning, it is easier to follow and smoother.

Looking southwest from the Staging Area across the first fairway. The trail is wide, packed, smooth and easy to follow. The snow machine gives some perspective to the width of the trail.

Looking toward Bootleg Mountain, the namesake of the races. This morning John Birrell, Trail Boss, made the decision to move Saturday’s start time to 8:00 AM due to the present warm weather and more to come. Right now the trails are perfect and ready to go. However, with the continuing warm trend the trails could easily turn for the worse and we want the races to be completed before the afternoon heat. We know this will be an inconvenience for some having to arrive earlier, however we also know particpants and volunteers will understand the reasoning. We do have mass email going out to participants and volunteers in additionn to this announcement. As such, the races will start at 8:00 AM on both Saturday and Sunday. Please see the Schedule Page for complete details.
