The 1st Annual Bootleg Sled Dog Races get underway with the 4-dog Purebred Class. With the 9 AM start on Saturday, the first day of racing, the sun was shining brightly showcasing this gorgeous region of the East Kootenay Rockies.

The finishes of the contestants in the 4-dog Purebred Class on Day 1 at the 1st Annual Bootleg Sled Dog Races. Their finish marked the first teams to run the trail competitively and was a glimpse of the speeds that would be recorded in the races to follow.

The 4-Dog Open Class at the 4-mile/2-mile distance gate. The distance gate was about half way through the 4-mile trail so the video shows the teams about half way through their 4-mile run including a pass on the trail.

The video shows some of the finishes in the Skijoring Class on Day 1. Skijoring on Saturday started at 11 AM so the heat of the day, warm enough to be melting snow, was starting to affect the trail, the dogs and the competitors.

The video shows some of the competitors in the 6-Dog Purebred Class at the 2-mile distance gate. At this point the teams still have 4 miles yet to go dropping down to the St. Mary River Valley floor then back up to the Club House elevation.

The video shows the finishes in the 4-Dog Purebred Class on Day 2. The final corner leading to the straight run to the finish line was perfect on the 2nd day of racing thanks to the work of the Trail Crew at the end of the 1st day of racing.

The video shows some of the finishes in the Skijoring Class on Day 2. Skijoring was the second last class on Sunday, the only class to follow was the Junior class featuring 8 competitors. In the final analysis, the 1st Annual Bootleg Sled Dog Races will go into the history books as a tremendous success.
